Valentine’s day is associated with love, red hearts, flowers, and chocolates. It is frequently thought of as being just for couples. For single people this can be one of the toughest days of the year but whether in a relationship or single, nobody should neglect self – love. Self-love is so important. To love others, we need to love ourselves too. This lets us experience the positive emotional states of love, joy and gratitude and enjoy life. Self-love is not egotism or selfishness. It’s about being kind to ourselves and having a positive effect on others too. ‘Love’ emotions such as gratitude and joy bring positive changes to our body and mind. They switch on genes needed for optimal health. ‘Fear’ emotions such as anger and worry knock the brain and body out of balance which downregulates genes needed for good health. Continued negative thinking can be toxic to us. It has severe effects on our health and wellbeing. We are energy beings consisting of 99.999% energy and less than 0.001% of us is solid. We are constantly vibrating which makes us appear solid. Our energy vibration can vary and we connect and resonate with others vibrating at a similar rate. Each emotional state we experience has its own unique frequency or vibration too. Emotions such as anger and fear are low vibration and emotions of love and gratitude are high vibration. Our natural vibration is high although our thoughts and emotional state can directly effect this. As Abraham Hicks quoted: ‘You don’t have to work at your higher vibration. Your higher, pure vibration is natural to you but you have to let go of the thought which is holding your vibration down’. The frequency at which you vibrate depends on how you think and feel about yourself. Your vibration attracts others of the same frequency and associated events into your life. Be very conscious of this and try to start each day with positive intentions. Some may find this difficult as any past criticism (whether it be from a boss, colleague, parent, partner or friend) stays in our cellular memory and affect us on all levels. To love ourselves fully we need to install positive self-belief to change our DNA and rewire our brains so that we believe in ourselves and love ourselves. When this is done, our vibration will naturally lift, attracting the desired people and events into your life. Self-love is governed by how we think and feel. To fully love ourselves we must also treat our bodies well physically by giving ourselves healthy nutritious food and time to rest and recharge. Also, take time to exercise. Maybe go out for a walk or run, join a yoga class - anything you enjoy. Here are some ideas for introducing self-love: Begin each day with some Self-love affirmation: Say out loud or write down three positive things about yourself. (some examples are below):
Today I love myself and all my interactions with others will be harmonious and positive. Then some ideas for during the day:
At the end of each day, give gratitude to all the good that has happened and say or write the positive affirmations again before sleeping, remembering to return to the positive affirmations on waking the next morning with a positive intention Today I love myself and all my interactions with others will be harmonious and positive. The journey to self-love has begun – enjoy it Lisa Elmore
