December - Enjoy the Festive! In the midst of winter I finally learned that there was an invincible summer. The Festive season arrives purposely in the time of greatest darkness. These the shortest of days provide an ideal time for inner reflection and therefore for illumination and potential self awareness. If you or someone you know suffers from depression perhaps you will find our article this month from Lis Horwich of interest.
Also this month Lisa Elmore suggests the perfect range of Flower Essences for dealing with all the stresses and strains to which we are all subjected during this time, whether that be the extra work load caused by shopping and catering or the dwindling light causing us to feel a bit blue. Are you wondering what effect the planetary influences will have on us at this unusual time of the year? Alison Metcalfe explains what we can expect astrologically during December. If you’ve been following Vanda North’s series on how to have Joy at Work you can read part six of her series Joy @ Work here. This April - The Work Life BalanceThe pressure of an increasingly demanding work culture in the UK is perhaps the biggest and most pressing challenge to the mental health of the general population.
The Mental Health Foundation state that the cumulative effect of increased working hours is having an important effect on the lifestyle of a huge number of people, which is likely to prove damaging to their mental well-being. The Mental Health Foundation is concerned that a sizeable group of people are neglecting the factors in their lives that make them resistant or resilient to mental health problems. It is estimated that nearly three in every ten employees will experience a mental health problem in any one year. However, the recent and dramatic rise in Britain's working hours would suggest this is likely to increase. 13% of the UK working population work 49 hours or more per week. Work related stress already costs Britain 10.4 million working days per year. The human costs of unmanaged work related stress extends far beyond this. A key way to protect your mental health against the potential detrimental effects of work related stress is to ensure you have a healthy work-life balance. Our articles this month are written with your work-life balance in mind. Hopefully you will find something that will help you make the necessary changes in your own life to ensure a successful and healthy work-life balance. This March - Harness Your Energy
During March we are looking at the subject of harnessing our own energy in order to make ourselves feel better.
We all know what makes us feel good, be it a walk in the forest, a stroll on the beach or spending time with loved ones. The reason we feel good is that finding things to nourish us emotionally raises our energy levels and brings about chemical change in our bodies. This can lead to a heightened immune system and therefore better health. Today healing energy constantly flows through every organ, joint and cell in my body’. - Louise Hay For many years now we have been considering the field of energy to establish techniques where we can amplify the effects of raising the vibrational levels of our personal (and collective) energy. These range from simple affirmations and flower essences to practices such as Reiki, Shiatsu, EFT and Kinesiology to name but a few.

This February - Be Your Own Valentine!February is the month of Valentines and we all enjoy being spoiled a little. A greetings card, a small gift, a romantic meal or a red rose. We all look to our loved ones to make us feel loved.
Research does suggest that being loved can promote better health. However, if that Valentine token we had hoped for doesn’t arrive how will that make us feel? Far better to take responsibility for our own wellbeing and ensure that we get all the love we can from the person who most knows our needs - ourselves! Giving ourselves plenty of love and attention on both an emotional and physical level will bring plenty of health and wellbeing. This will also benefit everyone else in our lives because love for others must begin with self-appreciation. If we do not value ourselves, can we ever honestly love someone else? Here are some very thought provoking words from C. Joybell.C “The person in life that you will always be with the most, is yourself. Because even when you are with others, you are still with yourself, too! When you wake up in the morning, you are with yourself, lying in bed at night you are with yourself, walking down the street in the sunlight you are with yourself. What kind of person do you want to walk down the street with? What kind of person do you want to wake up in the morning with? What kind of person do you want to see at the end of the day before you fall asleep? Because that person is yourself, and it's your responsibility to be that person you want to be with. I know I want to spend my life with a person who knows how to let things go, who's not full of hate, who's able to smile and be carefree. So, that's who I have to be.” I hope you enjoy all our articles this month and please do feel free to contact our contributors for any further information. A Blueprint for Health in 2017Most of us start the new year with good intentions to maintain a healthy lifestyle after the excess of goodies during the festivities. And if you managed to continue your 2016 new year’s resolutions during the whole year until now then congratulations!
But if like many of us you finished your year less than pleased with your efforts towards healthy habits in 2016 then maybe you were concentrating on ‘giving up’ things rather than ‘achieving’ things. Giving up something always seems to make us feel defeated before we begin, whereas achieving makes us feel that we have time to accomplish what we have resolved to change. Put a ‘Blueprint for Health’ in place to start and aim to achieve one thing at a time during the year. Make your goals ‘SMART’ (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound). Our contributors this month bring us their ideas about what goes to make up a blueprint for total good health and wellbeing. This month we welcome new contributor Fay Durrant who talks about a basic requirement for your Blueprint of Health with ‘Good Quality Sleep’ and Bevis Moynan tells us that the best way to lose weight is to stop trying. Also during the month we have another great ‘I Am’ article from Reena Kumarasingham and a new video from Hilary Cooper. In addition, Christina Cherry writes about ‘What makes us ill’ and we will have some client case studies to share. Surviving the Festive SeasonHygge (“heu-gah”). The art of building sanctuary and community, of inviting closeness and paying attention to what makes us feel open hearted and alive. ’A Cosiness of the Soul’. Here we are again at that time of year. The season that is viewed by many people with dread and others with sheer joy. Most of us are probably at varying degrees somewhere in between.

The 'C' WordMany people believe that getting cancer is purely down to genes, fate or bad luck. But through scientific research, we know that our risk actually depends on a combination of things, our genes, our environment and aspects of our lives, many of which we can control.

How to Create a Non Toxic LifestyleIt’s no simple matter to keep our bodies clear of toxins. Toxins are everywhere. They are in the food we eat and in our water, food, toiletries, cleaning materials and the very air we breathe. From pesticides to preservatives to artificial flavourings, colours and fragrances. Luckily our bodies are programmed to deal with a certain amount of exposure and we can also help ourselves by limiting exposure. Making sure that you take off your shoes at the door for example. Many toxic substances are carried in on the soles of our shoes. Our shoes are our outside link with the world so we can make sure that our front door is where the contamination stops.
Toiletries and cleaning materials are a large source of toxic chemicals. As it is impossible for manufacturers to test all their ingredients against other brands we are potentially creating extremely toxic mixtures in our own homes. We need to choose wherever possible brands that only utilise natural ingredients. Some homemade cleaning materials such as white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda can be just as effective and much cheaper than anything from the supermarket. Homemade skincare products can also be very effective and cost very little. Rosewater toner is very simple to make if you have access to fresh rose petals and why not try coconut oil for all your moisturising requirements. A little goes a long way! It you can’t always get organic food make sure you wash it well or better still soak in white vinegar to remove harmful chemicals and pesticides. Have a look at the ‘Dirty Dozen’ list, likely to be the most affected by chemicals and pesticides, and try to buy these fruit and vegetables from organic sources, or why not grow your own? Pure water is crucial to our wellbeing and a good water filter will make sure that many toxic substances are removed. It’s worth looking at the work of Dr Masaru Emoto to understand the complex nature of water and why it is so important to us. In today’s technological age we are constantly exposed to toxic ‘EMFs’ (Electromagnetic Radiation) and as we will all have an individual EMF threshold some of us will become overloaded and develop Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity. This can lead to fatigue and illness. By being aware of our exposure we can limit the impact by many means. Lastly, as emotional issues play such a large part in our wellbeing, let’s not forget the impact of toxic people in our lives and take steps to avoid them or at least find techniques to deal with the impact of this negativity. This month we have articles on our theme of Creating a Non-toxic Lifestyle from regular contributor Lisa Elmore, together with welcome return visits from Linda Anousta and Reena Kumarasingham and a piece from new contributor Debbie Goodridge. In a change from our usual format, we are introducing some specialist ‘columns’. These specialist columns will become a regular feature and you’ll be able to follow your favourite contributors over the coming months. Starting this month, we have Kellie Lucas with an introduction to NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming), Alexander Angles from Doris Prugel-Bennett and Insights from Vanda North. There will be more of these specialist columns coming, so Watch This Space! Here’s to your very good health Amanda Sharman |

The Power of ThoughtDuring July we are looking at the many aspects of the power of thought and how Our Thoughts Create Our Reality.
‘Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.’ This quotation was more recently attributed to Henry Ford but the sentiment has been around a lot longer. However, research in the world of quantum physics is now scientifically proving that our thoughts and emotions actually do affect our reality. Through the research of Dr Bruce Lipton and other leading-edge scientists, stunning new discoveries have been made about the interaction between your mind and body and the processes by which cells receive information. It shows that genes and DNA do not control our biology, that instead DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our thoughts. We have heard a great deal about the ‘placebo effect’. Indeed, the phrase is largely used in the context of being ‘only’ the placebo effect when being judged against other remedies. However, science is now proving that the Placebo effect (the Power of Thought) when harnessed is more powerful than once believed. Dr Joe Dispenza in his book You Are The Placebo explores the history, the science and the practical applications of the so-called placebo effect and it is becoming evident that by using 'the expectation of a particular outcome' we can alter our internal states - as well as external reality - solely through the action of our minds. |

June is for Healthy EatingIn June we ask ‘How can we achieve a healthy weight of our own choosing?’
Haven’t many of us at one time or another decided to go on a diet? And when we have been through that process and looked back on it a year or two later, haven’t we not only regained the ‘lost’ weight but put on a few extra pounds too? Unfortunately, even though the Weight Management industry is worth billions of pounds we still mostly don’t manage to achieve the body image we are seeking and if we do temporarily, at what cost? Unfortunately, many so called diet products are not really healthy. Low fat editions of our favourite foods will invariably have extra added sugar to maintain the flavour that will keep us buying the product. Or will have artificial sweeteners added which can have a very bad effect on our health. Ultimately achieving a perfect weight and size seems to simply come down to changing our eating habits away from processed to more natural foods, watching our portion sizes and moving a little more, long-term! Because unless we make permanent changes that weight will keep on creeping back on! And perhaps there is a need to take a look at how we feel about our weight. Is it there for a reason? Would we feel naked without it? Or do we unconsciously resist the thought of having to buy a whole new wardrobe of clothes? The unconscious mind is a complex thing! This month we have a wonderful mixture of views and techniques from our expert contributors on how you can achieve and maintain your own perfect weight. If you are looking for permanent changes perhaps one of these will work for you! To your very good health Amanda |

May looks at DepressionDepression is very common - one in five people become depressed at some point in their lives according to the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Anyone can get low, but someone is said to be suffering from depression when these feelings don’t go away quickly or become so bad they interfere with their everyday life. In truth, probably a large number of us will have had some form of depression during our lives to one degree or another. Depression can last for a few months. You can get better, only for the depression return again. It is usual to recover from depression, but it is also common for the depression to return. Episodes can last several months (or even longer in some instances). These days more and more people are turning to natural therapies for depression, particularly given the sometimes limited positive effects and frequent side effects from conventional antidepressant medications. Whilst suffering depression it is important to find our own coping strategies and take just small steps one at a time. During this month we have some brilliant articles on all aspects of depression and coping strategies. As well as welcoming back some regular contributors we also have new contributors Lis Horwich,Vanda North and Kellie Lucas. |

April - Mind Your Back!!!
Download a free and soothing meditation devised especially for us by Reena Kumarasingham when you subscribe here: |
Back pain is the leading cause of long-term sickness in the UK, responsible for more than 15 million lost work days in 2013 according the NHS. Not to mention that backache makes us feel extremely miserable! Even though it is the main support for our body, we treat our backs very poorly. Poor posture, sitting at desks for hours, lifting incorrectly, smart phone head-tilt, ‘text-neck’, stress and emotional issues all affect our back. There are many ways to prevent back problems by improving flexibility and core strength using such practices as Pilates, Yoga, and T’ai Chi. And when you are starting to feel the effects of not treating your back kindly there are many therapies you can try including the Alexander method, Feldenkrais, Bowen technique, Flower Remedies, Kinesiology, Crystal therapy or maybe just letting off a bit of steam! This month we feature a wealth of ideas for both preventative measures and remedies for you to consider and try out for yourself. I hope you find your perfect solution. Amanda Sharman |
