By far the best way to avoid colds and flu is to keep your immune system high and here are my Top Tips to making some changes to achieve just that! I advocate the One Simple Change Mission – Instead of attempting to conquer our health all at once, start by setting more manageable goals! Making small changes today can lead to great health benefits down the road, which is what I did. As a busy mum of two I found myself running around after the kids, juggling working and home life as well as running for fun! As a result I wasn’t looking after my nutrition. Despite a busy lifestyle I did eat reasonably well and I wasn’t over weight but I just didn’t feel healthy. Over the past year I have become more aware my family's health and nutrition. Don’t get me wrong we have never been a coke and nuggets couch potato family, but since learning more about nutrition it has inspired me to evaluate what we are putting into our bodies. I started using a nutritional product to support my healthy lifestyle, which inspired me to become an Ambassador for the company.
My Top Tips Nutrition – Don’t change everything in your diet all at once. Start by replacing empty calories with whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains - foods that are as close to their natural form as possible. It won’t be long before you realise just how good “good food” feels. I eat a mainly plant based diet, energising plant foods are full of phytonutrients and antioxidants and try to avoid wheat and dairy and like to make meals from scratch. I love experimenting with vegan curries adding various beans and spices and quinoa is my saviour! We have lots of green salads adding avocado, beets and seeds to make them sexy! Hydration: Drink more water – We don’t function at full capacity when we’re dehydrated. I try and drink 2-3 litres of water a day and I always carry a large bottle around with me. Water infusers are great to add a little flavour or zest. Make an effort to monitor your fluid intake and you’ll be functioning better in no time. Reduce alcohol, caffeine and drinks with artificial sweeteners and opt for herbal teas. I discovered Choc Shot! As a treat! Add two teaspoons to warm coconut milk it is divine and it’s all good! Keep Active: Get more Exercise – Most people look at exercise as a means to burn energy and lose weight. Instead, think of exercise as a great way to gain energy and stimulate your body and mind. With so many demands fighting for our attention everyday, it may be a challenge to find time for an hour trip to the gym. Start with simple activities you can incorporate into your daily routine. One Simple Change can make a big difference in how you look and feel. I love to run and enjoy nothing more than getting out for a 6am 10k run, which doesn’t impact on my family as I am back before they are up! What is important is to do exercise you enjoy and have fun with it! Wishing you good health, your way! Bernie Mullins www.juiceplus.co.uk/+bm07818
