Homeopathy is a system of natural healthcare that has been in worldwide use for over 200 years. Homeopathy treats each person as a unique individual with the aim of stimulating their own healing ability. A homeopath selects the most appropriate medicine based on the individual's specific symptoms and personal level of health.
Homeopathy can be summed up as, ‘Treat like with like’. This statement reveals a great truth. Homeopathy does not attack disease. In order to overcome the disharmony that manifest as symptoms, we need to be faced with a mirror that reflects back to us our individual suffering. It is this dynamic that sets in motion and directs our inherent self-healing ability.
Homeopathic medicines are prepared from naturally occurring substances such as minerals and plants and do not produce any side-effects. For this very reason, they are safe to be taken alongside and do not interfere with any other treatment. Their subtle action stimulates our vitality by working in a safe, gentle and effective way, to support and enhance our health as well as improve our quality of life.
My Experience of Homeopathy
Before I became a homeopath I was involved in Care and Education, working my way from care assistant to care manager and finally specialising in training Care staff from a wide portfolio of statutory and holistic trainings related to Care and Education of people with special needs.
I discovered homeopathy when I was working as a volunteer in a Camphill Community, living and working with young people with special needs. I observed that many of our ‘protégés’ benefited from homeopathic treatment in various ways.
Carefully prescribed homeopathic medicines gave them substantial support both for their physical and emotional well-being. It also helped reducing challenging behaviour and through continued treatment many could be weaned of allopathic medication such as anti-psychotic, anti-depressants and anti-epileptic drugs. My wife and I also used homeopathy with our own children for common ailments and consulted a homeopath myself. Time and again we have observed the deep and lasting positive improvements in their health.
An initial Consultation can take up to 1 ½ hours; this allows time for the Homeopath to conduct an in-depth holistic assessment to find the appropriate treatment. Homeopathy does not treat diseases as such – rather it treats the whole patient.
