Regular back ache is like toothache, or earache, there seems to be absolutely nothing you can do to alleviate the constant, nagging pain. Sitting down, laying down, hanging from the rafters like a bat. Sciatica is the worse, the electric pain one side of your lower back that shoots electric shocks down your leg, can’t get comfortable, even in bed when twitchy leg sets in. But did you know lower back pain could be the result of emotional stress that is happening in your world at that time? If you get bouts of lower back pain it may be how you react to the world around you.
As healers we all know how our Chakra system has a direct effect on our physical health, those of you that aren’t, we have an energy system running through our bodies that has a direct connection with our endocrine glands, our hormonal system, the release these hormones have a direct influence on our moods, emotions and physical health – and vice versa. How many times has something made you REALLY angry, but you can’t do anything about it? How does it make you feel? Twitchy, unsettled, can’t sit down? The anger has released adrenaline from your adrenal glands preparing for your body to react, however in this day and age of positive thinking and be nice to everyone we don’t release the anger and so the adrenaline doesn’t get used and is running round your body creating problems. This is a very basic view on the problem but the idea in real life is very similar, if a little more complicated. On a similar tip, do you feel uncomfortable in social situations? Fear change? Do you lack excitement in your life dancing to the tune of hum drum, hum drum? Your inner child not allowed to come out and play? Feel frumpy and unsexy? Again you are not using up the hormones being released by your body, in this case from your ovaries or gonads depending on which team you are on. All these things, the suppressed anger, the lack of joy in your life, being too busy to spend time on yourself to make yourself the truly beautiful person you are can contribute to lower back pain. The lower two Chakras in our energetic system are the Root Chakra located at our tailbone and the Sacral Chakra just below our naval. The Root Chakra is related to the colour red as the energy wavelength it produces is very similar to the energy wavelength produced by the colour red. The Sacral Chakra is related to the colour orange for the same reasons. So how can we overcome regular, or occasional, lower back pain before munching on quick fix drugs or rushing off to the Quacks? Consider for a moment: Are you angry about something that is out of your control? Are you the type of person that allows everything go over the top of your head, but actually you are seething inside? Are you soooo busy doing stuff for everyone else that you have no time to spend on yourself? Do you feel restricted in your life, not having the freedom to do as you wish? Are you anaemic, have cold hands and feet, always catching colds, feel quite depressed at times? All these things could be giving you back ache! Really! Last year was the very first time I experienced Sciatica. Yes as a healer I should have known better, but we tend to concentrate on everyone else and forget ourselves, it comes part and parcel, do what I say not as I do! The reason? My 16 year old dog was dying, my mum had a bad fall, the dentist had pulled two teeth out on opposite sides of my mouth (one didn’t need pulling in my opinion) so I couldn’t eat and we had just moved into a house that we had been building on and the landlord of the house I had been renting was being VERY difficult about returning the deposit….the result agonising sciatica. I was keeping anger suppressed and I had no control over all the situations I was in. Luckily I recognised…finally…what was happening and took myself off for a session of Kinesiology…thank you Amanda Sharman for mending my broken body! ……where my body was realigned and I felt more in control and the pain went away. The point is if you can recognise the signs you can head them off at the pass. If I get a twinge in my lower left hand side of my back I immediately look at how I am feeling and start putting things in place to alleviate the stress. Carrying red or orange crystals can help as they have the similar energy wavelengths to your Root and Sacral Chakras and will work on bringing them back into balance, as is eating red and orange foods..no really…wearing or surrounding yourself with red and orange can also help. (Incidentally Smokey quartz crystal is also excellent for back pain). Allow yourself time, the dishes/paperwork/housework/phone call can wait, run yourself a bath and relax before getting yourself into your best dancing gear and go boogie down….music containing plenty of drumming for best results. Gardening, pottery, painting or anything creative will help. Gentle exercise, a walk down the beach or the forest or park will soon break up all those excessive hormones running around your body causing havoc. Don’t wait for back ache to set in do these regularly and it will prevent the ache ever coming back. Some of my students love boxercise, they release all that pent up anger, dance and make their bodies beautiful all in one go. Of course sometimes back ache is due to pulling or straining muscles in which case I suggest wrapping up warm in front of the tv for your favourite program and let everyone else do the running around! But for those regular back ache twinges have a look at your reaction to the world around you and make a stand. You’re allowed to be yourself, you are allowed to have fun and most importantly you’re allowed to be angry…we are all human and anger is part of our makeup…it’s there for a reason and we need to express it in some way, even if we just recognise that a situation is making us see red…this is half the battle…those of you that remember the words of the great John Lydon ( Johnny Rotten)…Anger is an Energy!
